Marvel Stadium has joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower global network as part of its ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming venue for all fans.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program promotes awareness, understanding and acceptance of people living with a disability, condition or chronic illness that may not be immediately visible. Sunflower identifiers will be displayed throughout the stadium, while staff will undertake additional training to support the program.
Becoming a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower-friendly organisation enhances the way Marvel Stadium engages with its patrons for all its events whether its a match day, concert or other events hosted at the stadium as a part of its 365-day, year round calendar and helps create a more inclusive and supportive environment. The initiative also strengthens the venue’s broader commitment to fan experience, ensuring patrons can feel supported across all stadium programs and events.
General Manager – Marvel Stadium, Scott Fitzgerald said: “We are committed to delivering an inclusive and accessible experience for all our patrons at Marvel Stadium year-round. We are focused on ensuring our staff are equipped to confidently support people with hidden disabilities and continue to provide a welcoming and supportive experience across the Stadium for everyone.”
Wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard or pin is entirely voluntary and signals that a person may need a little extra assistance, understanding or time due to their hidden disability or condition.
The Sunflower program adds to a suite of existing accessibility and inclusion initiatives already in place at Marvel Stadium, including the construction of a Changing Place facility, Telstra’s Touch and Track initiative during AFL matches, and the venue’s on-going partnership with KultureCity to support two sensory rooms on-site and complimentary sensory bag hire.
Marvel Stadium also offers wheelchair escort services to assist patrons with mobility challenges with safe transportation to and from Stadium car parks and their seats, and general support and movement around the venue on event days.
